Ex-Professionals coach at the Derek Possee and Tony Waiters
We are very pleased to welcome Derek Possee to our new SUPA Soccer Academy at Surrey United starting September 2005. Derek holds a National B coaching license and joins Goalkeeper coach Tony Waiters as part of Craig Dalrymple’s hand picked team of qualified coaches and ex-professional players. Derek played for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the North
American Soccer League after a very distinguished professional career
in England. He was 17 years old when he played his first game for Tottenham
Hotspurs one of the most famous clubs in London. Derek went on to play for 16 years in the English Professional Leagues with teams such as Millwall, who paid 25,000 pounds for him, the most expensive player they had bought up to that time. He went on to play for Crystal Palace and Leyton Orient, and when at Orient he had the opportunity to play against Manchester United. Though small in height, Derek could out jump most of the defenders he played against and became a recognized goal scorer in the English Professional leagues. He brought those goal scoring skills with him when he signed for the Vancouver Whitecaps and proceeded to tie for the Whitecaps, club scoring title. Derek won the hearts of the Vancouver Whitecaps fans with this persistent play around the goal. He was the head coach of the Canadian national U-16 Boys Youth development Team from 2001 through 2003. Derek Possee was appointed Provincial Head Coach of the
British Columbia Soccer Association and he made many changes to two of
the Association’s largest programs. . This Player Development Program became the building block
for a very successful Provincial All-Star Program. This program saw many
improvements under his guidance. We welcome Derek to our Academy and look forward to him sharing his wealth of professional experiences and his coaching expertise with our Surrey United players.
