| The weekends of November
23rd and November 30th saw the weather wipe out most of the games
and on each weekend only one of our teams played a game.
On the 23rd November United’s Under 21 men’s team lost
1-0 in a top of the table clash against Westside at Hillcrest. We
are still trying to comprehend why we did not win the game by a
big margin as our lads put together their best performance of the
year dominating all facets of the game apart from the final finish.
Reshad Etminan had a glorious chance in the first half but fired
his shot over the open net after man of the match Trevor Rosencrans
had created the opening. Westside scored what proved to be the only
goal of the game when their striker lashed a wicked 20yard left
foot shot into the net via the upright. In the second half United
poured on the style as midfielders Rosencrans, Vince Stewart, Wyatt
Seddon-Johnstone and 14 year old Jacob Lensky sprayed the ball around
like seasoned veterans creating a virtual plethora of chances. Trevor
Rosencrans crashed a shot into the side netting after racing clear,
substitute Junaid Rasheed somehow twice headed crosses over the
bar when standing on the goal-line and Evan Howard broke clean through
only to slice his shot wide. |

The common theme with
all the chances was that it appeared harder to miss the open target
than score. However, the finishing gods were not with us and somehow
the home side to their own surprise emerged victorious to claim
all the points from the game.
The following weekend saw our ladies division one team in action
and despite missing seven of their regulars United outworked the
Langley side to earn a hard fought 1-0 win. The game was a scrappy
affair that seemed to take place for the most part in midfield with
neither side seemingly capable of penetrating in the final third
of the field. However, United’s game winner came in the 76th
minute when Bryleigh Cullen’s well struck free-kick from 35yards
out found leading scorer Kaitlen Clarke who coolly redirected the
ball into the far corner of the net, Langley came back strongly
as they sent players forward in search of the equalizer but could
only manage a couple of chances that were thwarted by the United
defence and goalkeeper Kim Bull who recorded her first shut-out.
