Alberta's Edmonton Victoria has won the Jubilee Trophy at the
2009 BMO National Championships in Saskatoon, SK. Edmonton won 5-4 on
kicks from the penalty mark after a 0:0 draw with Surrey United in the
final match. It is Edmonton's third Jubilee Trophy championship in six
years.
Goalkeeper Lindsay Letendre was the difference in making a big save
against Surrey United. All five Edmonton shooters, meanwhile, hit the
target on five opportunities.
Today's final wrapped up the five-day women's national championship in
Saskatoon, SK. The tournament was moved indoors to the SaskTel
Fieldhouse because of weather conditions. While Edmonton won gold and
Surrey won silver, Halifax Dunbrack clinched bronze with a 2:0 victory
over host Saskatoon NATA.
Edmonton's starting XI in the final featured Letendre, Robyn Yuzderski,
Lyndsay Stewart, Heather Young, Jackie Smith, Darcie Kutryk, Veronique
Mayer, Amanda Black, Keshia Wallin, Carleigh Miller and Tori Martyn.
Letendre, Stewart and Sandy Ash were all members of Edmonton's last
Jubilee Trophy championship in 2005. Since 2002, Edmonton has won two
bronze medals (2003, 2007), one silver medal (2002) and three Jubilee
Trophy championships (2004, 2005, 2009).
At tournament's end, Martyn and Halifax Dunbrack's Katie Richards were
named co-winners of the Top Scorer award. Surrey United's Theresa
Nuttal, meanwhile, won the BMO Top Goal Saver award. Halifax Dunbrack
won the Fair Play award.
