Mens CAT “A” DIVISION

Season Complete

Mens CAT “B” DIVISION

Surrey United’s CAT “B” team played their final game of the season at home against the East Vancouver Socceroos “B”.  United had their fastest start of the season when Lenny Longley scored at the 2 min. mark and 5 min. mark with nice goals setup by Liam McKinnon and then Brad Slauenwhite.  Then Longley scored again at 9:30 of the 1st half completing the fastest natural Hat-Trick of the Season. Longley’s third goal was probably the most bazaar goal of the year.  After being taken down from behind in the box the Ball squirted back to Slauenwhite who one timed a rocket toward the keeper, only to see Longley deflect the ball into the right side of the net while lay on his back on the ground.  After this point the game coasted into half time although United did strike a couple of posts but saw both efforts rebound away from the goal.  After being refreshed at half time, United added another goal in the first minute of play when Kody Bell broke free and struck a low shot into the right side of the net.  Then United’s defenders decided to get into the act, with Josh Chapman chipping in at the 49 minute with a nice arcing shot to the top right of goal.  Longley finished off his afternoon with his 4th marker on the day and 19th of the season, after taking a  precise McKinnon pass through the middle.  Closing out United’s scoring was another defender, Robert Byron, who roared past two defenders and slotting home a beautiful goal to the keepers left.  In the end a few great performances by Longley (4 goals), McKinnon (3 assists) and Slauenwhite (3 assists), kept the CAT “B” team in top spot to close out their season.  A very successful season for a great group of young players on this first year team.

 Mens MASTERS

United advanced to the next round of the cup with one of their most impressive displays of the season by beating Columbus 2-1 on Friday evening. Further details not available at time of going to press.

Ladies PREMIER

United’s premier Ladies bounced out of the league cup losing their semi-final game 3-1 to North Shore Renegades on a wet cold Sunday evening at Ambleside. Surrey enjoyed the territorial advantage in the early part of the game and opened the scoring after 18 minutes when Kate Qually hammered home a low shot from twelve yards after a neat exchange with Katie Thorlakson. However, in the 30th minute a defensive misunderstanding allowed the North Shore Striker the easiest of tap-ins in the six yard box. The goal appeared to knock the wind out of the sails of the normally resilient United ladies and they showed lacked a lot of their hallmark desire and determination during the rest of the game. The hammer blow for United came at the 70th minute when North Shore was awarded a soft penalty which they duly converted. North Shore added their third goal deep into injury time with a quick counter attack that caught United in an outnumbered situation after committing bodies forward in search of a late equalizer.

Ladies DIVISION ONE

United hosted West Coast Strikers in the Division One Cup Semi-final and suffered a heartbreaking defeat losing 5-4 on penalty shots after the game was knotted 1-1 at the end of regulation time. The game was a very evenly contested affair with scoring chances at a premium. United finally broke the deadlock at the 70 minute mark when Leah Coffin headed home a superbly flighted free-kick from Kaitlyn Rowbotham. With time running down United had the joy of victory snatched from their grasp in injury time when West Coast equalized scoring on a header from a corner-kick sending the game immediately to penalty kicks.

Player of the Week

This week’s Player of the Week goes to Lenny Longley who scored four goals in the Division 2CAT game to finish the season with 19 goals from sixteen games.
