Yolanda Duncan has stepped down from the role as Equipment manager which she has fulfilled for the past 3/4 years. Yolanda did a phenomenal job and we thank her for kitting out our soccer teams who continued to look the best in the province. She has given so much time and leaves behind some mighty big shoes to fill. While she will be staying on as an executive member and still actively engaged in the club she felt she wanted to free herself up to pursue some other personal interests. We are therefore looking for a replacement. The position is available effective January 1st and the position receives an honorarium to reflect the amount of time invested. The incumbent can rest assured that they will not be left to their own devices to struggle through and Yolanda and others will be on hand to help transition the new person into the role. Some of the tasks attached to the role are as follows:-
Anyone interested in fulfilling this role
or anyone requiring further information about the position can contact:
Martin Foden

The above team would still like to add some players to their roster. Anyone interested should contact Coach Rick Jarvis rocket1133@shaw.ca.
Surrey United will again be hosting the highly popular U5 Future
Stars program during the 2011 winter season. This 8-week program acts as
an initiation program for any and all young players looking to test out
the beautiful game of soccer prior to the formal club registration.
Surrey United technical director Jeff Clarke has created the program
curriculum and all sessions will be lead by members of the Surrey
United technical staff; parent participation will be strongly
encouraged. The program curriculum will be based on the teaching of
basic soccer skills and lots of fun soccer activities.

As discussed in the pre-season parent meetings it is our intention to continue with our existing rosters, for the most part, until the conclusion of the 2012 season. However, this does not mean that all of our players will be retained. We mentioned at the outset that there will always be an access gateway for players to move in and out of the program dependent upon their performance and development. We anticipate the number of players exiting our program at this stage will be very minimal and similarly there will be some new players entering into the program and added to our rosters.
Player Releases
Our Team Head Coaches have been conducting on-going evaluations and player assessments throughout the mini-season and have been providing regular feedback to players. Each Head Coach, in our program will have personal discussions with any released player/family.
Where possible and on a best efforts basis the Club will help with the location of displaced players to find suitable opportunities at other BCSPL teams or MSL teams. At the recent EA Sports Board of Governors Meeting it was agreed that franchises will have up to December 15, 2011 to release players.
However, we shall make every effort to identify those displaced players at the earliest opportunity.
Roster Additions
As mentioned previously we anticipate a small number of players exiting our program and we shall therefore need to add players to our rosters.
We shall not be holding any form of “mass evaluation” but we shall have the opportunity, after the conclusion of the Mini season, to invite interested players to participate in our training sessions so that we can conduct a player assessment.
Players interested in signing up for a specific team training session can do so on-line at our EA Sports BCSPL website:
It was agreed at the BCSPL Board of Governor’s Meeting that each BCSPL team must have a minimum roster of 14 players signed by December 15th for the 2012 season. All BCSPL franchises have agreed they will not contact players currently signed by BCSPL franchises until the end of the mini-season (ie November 15th). For players seeking to move from one franchise to another after the Mini season the BCSPL clubs have further agreed that the first step in this process would be to contact your Technical Director.
Please note that there are BCSPL and BC Soccer Association rules governing the transfer of players.

Congratulations to last year’s Provincial cup Champion U/14 SGU metro girls who won the Bronze medal at the National Championships in St John’s Newfoundland this past Thanksgiving weekend.
The girls, featuring many players on our U/15 BCSPL team, beat the Alberta team 2-0 team to win the bronze medal . The SGU team was once again dominated play with their possession and ball movement. They took the lead early in the game with a goal from Harman Billen from 25 yards out. Monpreet Heer followed up with a second five minutes later again with a long range effort. Goalkeeper Alanna Carmichael who had a fine tournament throughout the week had a number of shots to contend with during the game but performed admirably to record the shut-out.
The team who had gone unbeaten in the round robin portion of the tournament rebounded from their disappointment of losing the semi final game to Quebec 2-1 in overtime.
Congratulations to all the players and staff.
We are very proud of your accomplishment and also the way in which you represented our clubs.

Registration is open for all 2011/12 SU Academies.

Want to earn four credits towards high school graduation?
In a partnership with Surrey School District, SUSC is offering
players between the ages of 16 and 18 years old the opportunity to earn
four credits towards graduation while being mentored by seasoned Surrey
United coaches and staff.
To earn the four credits, players will need to complete 100 hours of service. These hours will be dependent on the player’s availability. For example, they can take place two days per week after school and 4 to 6 hours on Saturdays and Sundays until the requirements have been fulfilled. Location of work experience will be at Cloverdale Athletic Park.
To learn more about this new venture, please contact your high school career facilitator or Yolanda Duncan, Surrey United executive member. Yolanda can be reached via email at duncan_y@sd36.bc.ca.
