COVID-19 Updates

Last Updated: March 26, 2020

Our Valued Surrey United SC Members,

The COVID-19 outbreak has affected us all.

That said, we hope that this email finds all our families doing well and that we are all playing our part in minimizing its spread to bring it under control as soon as practically possible.

We join you in the challenges of navigating through these uncertain and unprecedented times we are all facing. There is no individual, family, business owner, or community member that has not been touched in some way from this. However, we will persevere as Canadians, and we will fight to remain grounded in the hope that we will achieve normalcy in our lives, that we will get through this.

As a not for profit, Surrey United's ‘more than a soccer club’ motto supports the importance sport has in the success of our youth and also acknowledges the duty we, as a sports association, feel to our community and members.  Beyond the obvious health benefits, participation in sports builds confidence, improves social interactions and teaches teamwork all skills to take into their adult life.  Our belief is that the anticipation of being back on the field will provide optimism to our youth during this challenging and unsettling time, particularly the younger ones that cannot fully grasp and understand the true depth of change this virus has brought to their lives.

BC Soccer, our provincial soccer governing body, released the attached announcement on Monday, March 23rd, 2020. The release states that all sanctioned soccer activities will likely be suspended in April 2020 and the possibility of resuming play will be re-evaluated weekly. It is important to note that they also state that if the suspension is lifted before April 30th, then all soccer activities could resume sooner.

What does this mean for current club programs?

In general, we are maintaining our optimism that we'll be able to get our kids out on the field again soon. BC Soccer and the BCCSL have postponed the Coastal Cup play downs until May.

Also, our club’s 2020/21 team evaluations have not all been completed and every effort will be made to complete these as thoroughly and fairly as possible. All groups that are affected by the team evaluation schedule suspension will be contacted via our club’s powerup messaging account.

Our spring programs have been delayed as well and all registrants of the programs have been notified with updated info.

We'll be ready to run our programs as professionally and responsibly as ever once it is recommended we can resume play by the government health professionals. Physical activity will be an important component of mental health recovery for all, we will be ready and prepared to provide this.

We will be monitoring the COVID-19 situation and recommendations from the government health officials and soccer governing bodies. We plan to send updates to all members once they become available. In the meantime, we ask for and appreciate your patience and support in advance. Making you informed and updated is a high priority for us, and we will send out updates as soon as we receive them, our social media platforms will also continue to provide information necessary for communication as well as our website (www.surreyunitedsoccer.com).

Let's make sure we all do our part.  Let's all fight this together. Let's show the strength and resolve of our SUSC membership and the local soccer community. We'll get through this soon and our kids will be able to return to our game that gives them so much joy and happiness.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this challenging and unchartered time. We wish everyone a safe and restful time with their families.

Sincerely,

Surrey United Soccer Club - Board of Directors / Executive Committee / Technical Staff
