Surrey United is very excited to announce that Srdjan Djekanovic and Niko Marcina will be the coaches of our next U13 boys and girls Intake teams (2006-born) respectively. Both of these coaches have been among the most successful coaches in the BCSPL’s first 6 seasons in terms of player development and advancement.
Serge Djekanović holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, a Masters in Educational Leadership and a USA Soccer Federation B National coaching license. He is a former Canadian National player at the Senior and U-20 levels, a former CIS player with the UBC Thunderbirds of Canada West, and a former professional player in the MLS with the Vancouver Whitecaps, Toronto FC, and the Montreal Impact. Serge joined Surrey United in 2016 as our 1999-born and 2000-born boys head coach and was named as the 2001-born boys head coach this September.
Niko Marcina holds a CSA B National License coaching certification. As a player, Niko played for the BC Provincial squad for 2 years; had a successful university career at UBC leading them to 2 national titles, earning 3 time MVP honors and 2 time national tournament All Star awards; meanwhile completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Human Kinetics, with a minor in strength and conditioning. Niko has been the head coach of our 2000-born girls and 2003-born girls teams since he joined Surrey United in 2016 and has also been a key contributor to our High Performance Academy and conditioning programs. He has recently completed his masters in Sport and Recreation - Concentration in Soccer Coaching through Ohio University.
“We are thrilled to be able to have two of our top coaches recycling down to younger age groups in our Surrey United BCSPL program,” said Jeff Clarke, SUSC Technical Director. “Both of these coaches are highly respected in the soccer community and undoubtedly will do an amazing job working with our 2006-born intake groups and developing the age-group as a whole.
The evaluations for the SUSC U13 (2006-born) teams will begin around February 1st, 2018. All information will be posted by January 10th, 2018. Continue to check the website for updates.
