Winter Speed & Quickness Program

Program Overview

The Speed and Quickness program of SUSC is an introductory running program for athletes born 2009 - 2015 designed to complement the kinetic style and overall skill-set of athletes of all sports. The program is run in partnership with EMSP, our multi sports service provider.

The head instructor of the program is Nick Colyn, a stand-out Track & Field

athlete at Trinity Western University and experienced running coach in the

public track and field circuit.

All training will be age and level appropriate and will consist of the following:

Acceleration / Deceleration
Quickness
Power & weight transfer in sprinting
Correcting running form & style (proper biomechanics)

Attendance expectations: This is not a conditioning program. There will be a higher focus on quality (style) than quantity (fatigue of athletes).

While we are here to help athletes improve, the coaching staff understands that children have many activities. There is, however, a strong correlation between attendance and athletic improvement. Participants will get more benefit from the program the more they can attend. This is an individual sport (and investment) so staff will leave the decision of commitment levels to registrants (families). The sessions will run rain or shine.

PRELIMINARY TRAINING SCHEDULE

The program begins on Monday, January 15 and runs until March 4, 2024.

Each session is 1 hour in length and runs on Mondays.

ACADEMY KIT

Adidas is the kit supplier for all SUSC Academy programs. The black SUSC Adidas Condivo training jacket and black Academy training shirt will be an optional kit for this Academy program. Order the Academy Kit through PowerUp when you register.

REGISTRATION

The registration for all SUSC Player Academy Programs is completed through the PowerUp registration system.
