Huitema and Schmidt were named to Women’s Olympic Team Preparation Camp

Jordyn Huitema and Sophie Schmidt have been named to the women’s Olympic team camp roster by new national team coach Bev Priestman. Huitema is a former SUSC BCSPL player and Schmidt played for the Surrey United Soccer Club women’s team and was a key member in the 2006 National Championship winning team. 

 

Ex-SUSC standout Joel Waterman goes to Team Canada

Joel Waterman just got called into the Canadian Men’s National Team Camp 2 weeks ago in

Florida. Waterman, a 1996 born SUSC alumni, now plays for the Montreal Impact of the MLS.

He had a prolific university career at Trinity Western before getting drafted by Calvary FC of

the Canadian Professional League. See Joel's former "Where are They Now" article in our March

Joel Harrison drafted by Whitecaps FC

Joel Harrison, 1999-born SUSC alumni, has been signed by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the

2021 MLS Superdraft. Over the past four years, Harrison has played college soccer at the

University of Michigan, after receiving a full scholarship while getting noticed in performances

with SUSC and the Whitecaps Residency Program. Joel was a key member of the SUSC National Championship winning team in 2015.

 

Juvraj Kooner signs in Portugal

Former 2002-born SUSC player Juvraj Kooner has recently signed a professional contract in Portugal with S.C. Braga. Juvy played 4 years in the SUSC BCSPL program before going on to the Whitecaps Residency program. He has spent 2 years in pursuit of an opportunity in Europe and we are so pleased to see his perseverance pay off. 

 

Simon Colyn settling in Italy

In September, 2002-born SUSC graduate Simon Colyn signed a loan deal with SPAL, a team that plays in Italy’s Serie B. The club is based out of Ferrara, a small town a few hours from Bologna. Simon is doing well in the U19 team and is pushing for promotion into the first team. He is learning the language and adjusting to life in Italy. “It is important for me to be able to express myself well in Italian. I have already picked up some football (soccer) words and in daily life, I can manage for the time being thanks to Google Translate". Simon was signed on a homegrown MLS contract with Whitecaps FC in 2019.
