Surrey United Development Academy - Skills MAX Program
Surrey United Development Academy (SUDA)
Skills MAX Program
SUDA Skills MAX Program Overview
The 2020 / 21 Surrey United Development Academy (SUDA) Skills MAX program is a 16-session training program being offered at Surrey United SC, Monday nights on CAP #1 for both male and female players in the U7-U14 (2007 - 2014) age-groups. This program will span over the 2020/21 fall/winter soccer season, starting in September and ending in February.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SUSC will implement their SAFE RTP Curriculum, which will
correspond with the guidelines & restrictions from ViaSport, BC Soccer, and Canada
Soccer. The overall program will operate within the SUSC Return to Play Plan. The SAFE
RTP Curriculum will adjust with each update by ViaSport and BC Soccer. Further details
This SUDA Skills MAX program will be geared towards motivated players looking to advance
their current skill and playing level under the guidance of the Surrey United SC Technical Staff.
The SAFE RTP Curriculum will involve a broad range of skills and drills in technical/tactical
development of the game including speed and agility, shooting and finishing, defending
technique, creative attacking, and so much more. The weekly training is designed to directly
assist the players in their personal playing performances throughout their soccer season.
There will also be introductory physical training and testing for these young soccer players.
There will be limited registrations accepted into this year’s program to meet social gathering
restrictions and limited field resources. This means we will be able to accommodate fewer
participants than we have in previous years. Interested participants are encouraged to register
early to avoid disappointment.
SUDA Skills MAX Program Details
Speed Development and Testing
There will be an emphasis on basic kinetic movement patterns, the speed of running with and without the ball (acceleration/deceleration). SUDA Skills MAX program participants will go through simple speed tests throughout the program and scores will be kept to measure improvement over the year(s).
Player Assessment Report
All participants completing the 2020/21 SUDA Skills MAX program participants will receive a detailed personal assessment in March 2021 which will provide a complete report of their individual season progress and development.
Skills Based Training Curriculum
The SUDA Skills MAX program will incorporate 3 key pillars of individual skill development:
Speed, Agility & Quickness and other kinetic movements related to dribbling and ball control;
Skills & Dribbling; repetition and consistently focused activities;
Passing & Shooting; creative passing sequences and lots of shooting!
The SUDA Skills MAX program will consist of station-based training sessions and will follow a comprehensive and progressive program. There will also be an inductive approach to teaching, which will allow players some ‘open training time’ designed to spur highly creativity and enjoyment with learning the game. The SUSC FREE PLAY training concept has been a huge hit over the last couple years and we are excited to offer it again within this SUDA Skills MAX program.
The SAFE RTP Curriculum used for the SUDA Skills MAX program includes a wide variety of training activities and drills that maintain physical distancing requirements at all times between players. This curriculum was built by the SUSC Technical Staff with the guidance and research from BC Soccer and Canada Soccer and the training was hugely successful in SUSC’s RTP pilot program held in June & July 2020. The structure of the curriculum is purposefully flexible to permit for adjustments with each update by ViaSport and BC Soccer. The technical training is incredibly beneficial to young and developing soccer players and the technical staff will do a great job, as always, with making it an enjoyable learning experience for all participants that contributes to the player's overall technical, physical, social, emotional and mental personal growth.
