Surrey United Soccer Club (SUSC) will formally recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by inviting all members to wear orange shirts to their training sessions on Tuesday, September 30th. All training sessions are on as scheduled.
Wearing orange is a powerful act of remembrance and solidarity. It honours the survivors of residential schools and commemorates the children who never returned home. The orange shirt is inspired by Phyllis Webstad, a residential school survivor whose story symbolizes the loss of culture, identity, and dignity experienced by generations of Indigenous Peoples across Canada.

SUSC respectfully acknowledges that we train and play on the shared, unceded traditional territories of the Katzie, Semiahmoo, Kwantlen, and other Coast Salish Peoples. We are grateful for the opportunity to gather, grow, build, and play on this land.
We encourage every member of our club—players, coaches, families, and staff—to join us in this meaningful gesture. Let your orange shirt be a visible commitment to learning, reflection, and reconciliation. To deepen your understanding or support Indigenous communities, we invite you and your team to take a moment together to explore the following resources:
At Surrey United, we are proud to be a diverse club that celebrates community both on and off the field. Soccer brings people together, and we believe that understanding and respect for all cultures, including the First Nations on whose traditional territories we play - make our community stronger.
Thank you for joining us in making September 30 a day of learning, respect, and action.
